How to Clean Mahjong Tiles, Step by Step

    1. Work in batches. Wash one suit at a time so you can count tiles back in.
    2. Soak briefly. Place the tiles in soapy lukewarm water for one to two minutes. Do not leave them soaking for long.
    3. Wipe each face. Use the microfiber cloth. Brush engraved characters gently with the toothbrush to lift grime from the channels.
    4. Rinse. Rinse in clean water so no soap film dries on the face.
    5. Dry. Lay tiles face-down on a towel and pat dry with the second cloth. Let them air-dry fully before stacking or storing.

Washing mahjong tiles this way takes about 30 minutes for a 152-tile set and is safe for engraved, UV-printed and clear-coated faces.

    What to Avoid

Cleaning products and acrylic mahjong tiles
    ProductSafe?Why
Mild dish soapYesRemoves skin oils without attacking acrylic
Alcohol / sanitizer wipesNoCan cause crazing (fine surface cracks)
Acetone / nail polish removerNoDissolves the acrylic surface
Bleach, ammonia glass cleanerNoClouds the surface and can fade color fill
    Abrasive sponge or powderNoLeaves scratches
DishwasherNoHeat can warp tiles and loosen fill

    Stubborn Marks and Light Scratches

For ink or food marks, repeat the soapy wash and let the toothbrush do the work. Light surface scuffs on clear acrylic can be reduced with a plastic polish made for acrylic, applied with a soft cloth on the tile back or sides first as a test. Do not polish over UV-printed artwork; the polish can lift ink. Deep scratches should be left alone rather than sanded.

    Cleaning Racks, Pushers and Cases

Acrylic mahjong racks and pushers clean the same way as tiles: soapy water, soft cloth, dry fully. For a case, vacuum the insert, wipe the acrylic shell with a damp soapy cloth, and leave the lid open to dry before repacking. Fabric tile bags can usually be hand-washed and air-dried.

    Storing Tiles Between Games

    • Store tiles fully dry, in a case with a fitted insert so edges do not knock together.
    • Keep the set out of long direct sunlight and away from heaters.
    • Do not stack heavy objects on the case lid.

A fitted mahjong tile case protects the tiles more than any cleaning routine.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Can I wash mahjong tiles in the dishwasher?

No. Wash by hand in lukewarm soapy water.

Can I use alcohol wipes on acrylic mahjong tiles?

Avoid them; alcohol can craze acrylic. Use soap and water.

How often should I clean my mahjong tiles?

A wipe after heavy use and a full wash every few months for home sets; monthly for club sets.

Will cleaning remove the engraving color?

Not with soap and water. Solvents and abrasives are what damage color fill.

    Frequently Asked Questions

What is the MOQ for a custom mahjong set?

Fully custom tiles start at 50 sets per design with standard packaging and stock accessories. Accessory customization starts at 250 sets and custom packaging at 1,000 sets. A different artwork, tile size or format counts as a separate design.

How long does a custom mahjong order take?

Paid samples take 5–7 days for a single engraved tile, about 7 days for a 12-tile color check, or 7–10 days for a full set including air freight. Production takes 15–20 days after sample approval, then air freight 3–7 days or sea freight 14–30 days.

Do sample fees come off the production order?

No. Sample fees are quoted and paid separately and are not credited to production orders. The sample exists to settle the specification before the bulk run.

Can you match a Pantone color exactly?

We match from the in-stock cast PMMA sheet range to your Pantone or hex target and lock the choice against the approved physical sample. A 100% exact match to a Pantone reference is not promised from stock sheet.

Will you sign an NDA for our mahjong artwork?

Not for mahjong projects. Your artwork is used only for your production, never published, never reused and never offered to another buyer, but mahjong production is a multi-partner supply chain that a single-factory NDA cannot honestly bind. For non-mahjong acrylic projects, an NDA is available on request.

Put the specification in the quote

Send the format, tile size, engraving route, color target, accessories, packaging tier, quantity and artwork status. We return a line-item quote and a paid-sample plan against that specification.
