Travel Mahjong Sets & Custom Mahjong Tile Cases
Cases cut and bonded to your approved tile size · travel, gift-box, lockable retail and member-locker builds · quoted per specification · 15–20 day production.
Build a travel mahjong set or a mahjong set with case around your own tiles: every portable case is cut and bonded in cast acrylic (PMMA) to fit the tile size you approve on the sample, from the standard mahjong tile dimensions up to 36 × 25 × 15 mm full-size bodies. The four builds we run most are the single-set travel case for American mahjong tiles or Chinese 144 sets, the printed gift-box case, the lockable retail display case, and the modular club member-locker system. Inserts are specified as foam, felt or a silicone cradle, with room for mahjong tile bags, racks and pushers, and lids take UV-printed brand artwork. Case work is quoted per specification, and custom packaging joins the order from 1,000 sets.

Explore Custom Mahjong Display & Travel Cases
A custom mahjong display or travel case is quoted per specification: case wall thickness, insert type (foam, felt or silicone cradle), latch, lid branding and packing all move the price, so the approved tile dimensions and the insert decision are what we need to quote the case.

Mahjong Format Reference — NMJL 152, 160, Chinese 144
American mahjong, governed by the National Mah Jongg League (NMJL), ships a 152-tile standard set — suits + winds + dragons + flowers + 8 Jokers. The 160-tile expanded American set adds 2 spare Jokers and 6 blank replacement tiles, so one damaged tile never forces a return. Traditional Chinese mahjong (144 tiles, no Jokers) is the dominant format outside North America. Our production line ships every format above from the same tile geometry — only suit composition and Joker count change.
| Format | Tile Count | Jokers | Suits & Flowers | Primary Market |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| NMJL 152 American | 152 | 8 Jokers | 8 flowers + winds + dragons | Dominant US standard, governed by National Mah Jongg League annual card |
| Expanded 160 American | 160 | 8 Jokers + 2 spares | All 152 playable tiles + 2 spare Jokers + 6 blank replacement tiles | US retail gift sets — spares eliminate returns from a single damaged tile |
| Chinese 144 Traditional | 144 | 0 Jokers | Standard 4 seasons + 4 flowers | East Asia, Southeast Asia, mainstream international markets |
| Bespoke house format | Custom | Custom | Custom | Game brands launching a proprietary mahjong-variant SKU under their own IP |
Same tile geometry across all formats: 30 × 23 × 13 mm standard body (32 × 23 × 13 mm mid and 36 × 25 × 15 mm full-size on request), 0.3 mm CNC chamfer on all four edges, laser-etched character channels, optional UV-printed suit color overlay with clear-coat seal. The sheet stock, production line, and QC protocol are identical — only the suit composition and Joker count differ. USMJ is not affiliated with, licensed by, or authorized by the National Mah Jongg League.
Why Acrylic for a Premium Mahjong Case Line
A premium mahjong travel case or display case is judged on wall thickness, insert fit, latch and lid finish. Cast acrylic (PMMA) gives a clear, rigid case that shows the tiles, takes UV-printed lid artwork and bonds without visible seams; the tile-material notes below explain why the set inside is cast acrylic too.
Cast PMMA vs Melamine
Melamine tiles have a lower unit cost but feel hollow, show mold-line seams, and chip at edge contact. Cast PMMA has controlled weight, holds engraving depth crisply, and reads premium on the table. USMJ builds tiles in cast PMMA only — no melamine and no extruded sheet. For background on tile materials, see our mahjong tile material guides.
Color Locked on the Approved Sample
Sheet colors are matched from the in-stock cast PMMA range to your Pantone or hex target and locked against the approved physical sample. A 100% exact match to a Pantone reference is not promised from stock sheet. The datasheet for the selected sheet grade is available on request.
Engraving That Cannot Wear Off
Laser-etched characters recess into the tile body — the character is in the acrylic, not on it, so it cannot wear off; only the surrounding face can scratch. UV-printed suit colors receive a clear-coat seal over the printed face. Both routes are validated on the paid sample before production.
4-Layer Laminated Premium Tier
Single-layer cast PMMA is the production-tier default. 4-layer laminated tiles add a translucent middle layer with through-laminate engraving, so the character reads from both faces and the tile gains a dimensional look single-layer cannot match. Used for collector-edition runs and premium gift-box programs, quoted per specification.

Quote a Similar ProjectWhat Affects Mahjong Product Pricing?
Custom acrylic mahjong pricing follows five cost drivers across the full product line: substrate (single-layer cast PMMA vs 4-layer laminated), colorway count (each color a sheet pick from the in-stock range, locked on sample), engraving and branding depth (laser etch vs UV print), packaging tier (standard protective below 1,000 sets; custom formats from 1,000 sets), and order quantity. We quote variables — never flat prices — and explain what moves the number so you can choose what to spec up.
Substrate & Material
Cast PMMA single-layer is the production-tier default. 4-layer laminated cast PMMA with a translucent middle layer is quoted per specification. Each is a buyer-side cost-versus-value trade against the retail tier and the play environment.
Color Route
Every colorway is cut from the in-stock cast sheet range — no custom casting, no per-color fees, no casting lead time. Send Pantone or hex targets; we propose the closest available sheets and lock each color against the approved physical sample. More colorways mean more sheet picks to approve, not more cost.
Engraving & Branding
Laser-etched characters are the default route. UV-printed suit colors with a clear-coat seal are quoted per specification, as is a brand logo on the tile back. The route is confirmed on the paid sample before production.
Packaging Tier
Standard protective packing ships with every order and is the production-grade default. Custom packaging — wooden gift box, velvet-lined display case, or branded retail unit-pack — joins from 1,000 sets and is quoted per specification. ISTA 3A drop testing is available on request or on specified programs.
Order Quantity
FOB Shenzhen reference pricing for a standard-spec engraved set is $58 at 50 sets, $56 at 100, $50 at 200, $49 at 250, and $47 at 500. Reference only · FOB Shenzhen · confirmed on your written quote. Accessory customization starts at 250 sets; custom packaging at 1,000 sets. The written quote is issued for your actual target quantity — we don't fill speculative multi-tier matrices.
Configuration Tiers & Reference Pricing
Fully custom tiles — your artwork, engraving, and colorways — are available from 50 sets with standard packaging and stock accessories; accessory customization starts at 250 sets and custom packaging at 1,000 sets. Every order picks from the three standard tile sizes (30 × 23 × 13 mm, 32 × 23 × 13 mm, 36 × 25 × 15 mm), with custom sizes on request. The prices below are references for a standard-spec engraved set. Reference only · FOB Shenzhen · confirmed on your written quote.
| Order size | Typical FOB Shenzhen price | Configuration tier |
|---|---|---|
| 50 sets | $58 per set | Fully custom tiles · standard packaging |
| 100 sets | $56 per set | Fully custom tiles · standard packaging |
| 200 sets | $50 per set | Fully custom tiles · standard packaging |
| 250 sets | $49 per set | + accessory customization · standard packaging |
| 500 sets | $47 per set | + accessory customization · standard packaging |
Custom packaging joins from 1,000 sets and is quoted per spec against your actual program quantity. For the published quantity ladder and the inputs that change it, use the mahjong tiles price FAQ. For the 4-tier pricing matrix on tile sets specifically (Essentials / Professional / Premium / Boutique), see the American mahjong set page. The display-case and rack-and-pusher sub-pages each carry their own pricing-factor breakdown sized to their respective product specs.
Why Brands Choose USMJ for Custom Mahjong
50 sets opens fully custom tiles with standard packaging and stock accessories; 250 sets opens accessory customization; 1,000 sets opens custom packaging. USMJ then controls 15–20 day production against the approved sample, drawing, artwork, and color target in the same Shenzhen acrylic-production system used since 2012.
Speed-to-Market
15–20 day production from sample sign-off. Air freight runs 3–7 days and sea freight 14–30 days, so a split shipment can put a first batch on the shelf while the balance travels by sea.
Brand-Newcomer Floor
Fully custom tiles are available from 50 sets with standard packaging and stock accessories. That entry tier lets an emerging brand validate a first production run before moving to accessory customization at 250 sets, custom packaging at 1,000, or larger repeat volumes.
Published Spec Guides
Three pages cover the spec decisions that matter — tile substrate + chamfer + register, engraving methods compared, and display-case build programs. Each page covers the decisions that change the tile, the case, or the price.
Honest Color Model
Colors come from the in-stock cast sheet range, matched to your Pantone or hex target and locked against the approved physical sample — the sample is the contract, not a screen render. We publish what most factories won't: a 100% exact match to a Pantone reference is not physically deliverable from stock sheets, and anyone promising it is describing a custom casting run — a cost that will not be in their quote.
ISTA 3A Drop-Test on Request
ISTA 3A drop testing is available on request or on specified programs, with sign-off documentation shipped alongside the order. It catches insert or latch spec drift before the shipment leaves our floor, which is far less costly to remediate at our line than at your warehouse.
Artwork Protection by Practice
Your files are used only for your production — never published, never reused, never offered to another buyer, and client designs never appear in our marketing. We do not sign NDAs on mahjong projects: the multi-partner production chain makes a single-factory NDA unenforceable, and your real protection is a registered trademark or design patent. For non-mahjong acrylic projects, an NDA is available on request. Full policy.
Cast PMMA Material Data
Tiles are cast PMMA only — no melamine and no extruded sheet. The datasheet for the selected sheet grade is available on request for buyers with chemistry-spec procurement requirements.

Production in 15–20 daysFrequently Asked Questions
What counts as a custom mahjong travel case?
3 core acrylic mahjong product lines can ship as one bundle or as separate SKUs: tile sets (152 NMJL American · 160 expanded American · 144 traditional Chinese), display and travel cases sized to your tile dimensions, and rack-and-pusher accessories. Fully custom tiles are available from 50 sets with standard packaging and stock accessories; accessory customization starts at 250 sets and custom packaging at 1,000 sets. Production takes 15–20 days after sample approval.
Do your mahjong travel cases fit 36 mm tiles?
Yes. Every case is cut to the tile size approved on the sample — 30 × 23 × 13 mm, 32 × 23 × 13 mm or 36 × 25 × 15 mm full-size bodies — so a 36 mm set gets a case, insert and lid depth drawn for those tiles, not a stretched standard case.
What's the MOQ for a custom mahjong run?
50 sets per unique tile design is the production floor with standard packaging and stock accessories; accessory customization starts at 250 sets; custom packaging starts at 1,000 sets. Paid samples are available before production and are never credited to it.
How fast can you ship a 200-set custom mahjong order?
15–20 days of production after sample approval covers a 200-set order. Before that, samples run $40–80 for a single engraved tile (5–7 days), $180–320 for a 12-tile color check (7 days), or $300–500 for a full-set sample (7–10 days including air freight) — all paid separately and never credited to production.
Can I order the tile set, case, and rack-and-pusher together as one bundle?
3 coordinated components — tiles, case, and rack-and-pusher — can be quoted as one bundle or as separate SKUs. A common bundle uses 152 tiles, 4 racks and pushers, a travel case, mat, dice, wind indicator and mahjong chips. See the tile sets, display cases, and mah jongg racks sub-pages for individual specs.
What customization is available across the mahjong line?
50 sets is the available entry quantity for fully custom tiles with your artwork, engraving, and colorways, standard packaging, and stock accessories; accessory customization starts at 250 sets and custom packaging at 1,000 sets. Standard tile bodies are 30 × 23 × 13 mm, 32 × 23 × 13 mm, and 36 × 25 × 15 mm, with custom sizes and any layer construction open. Sheet colors are matched from the in-stock range to your Pantone or hex target and approved on the physical sample — a 100% exact match is never promised.
Can the case hold racks, pushers and tile bags as well as the tiles?
Yes. The insert is drawn around the full packout you specify: 152, 160 or 144 tiles, four racks and pushers, dice, wind indicator and tile bags. Send the contents list and we size the case and insert to it before sampling.
Do you handle IP-protected brand-edition work?
100% of brand-edition artwork is handled under standing practice: used only for your production, never published, never reused, never offered to another buyer. We do not sign NDAs on mahjong projects — mahjong production is a multi-partner supply chain that a single-factory NDA cannot honestly bind, and the manufacturing process is not customer IP. For non-mahjong acrylic projects, an NDA is available on request. For enforceable design protection, register a trademark or design patent in your market — full reasoning in the ordering policies.
What does USMJ's mahjong product line cost reference look like?
$58 per set at 50 sets, $56 at 100, $50 at 200, $49 at 250, and $47 at 500 are the current FOB Shenzhen reference points for a standard-spec engraved set. Fully custom tiles are available from 50 sets with standard packaging and stock accessories; accessory customization starts at 250 sets and custom packaging at 1,000 sets. The written quote is issued for your actual target quantity — the ladder already shows how price moves with quantity; we don't fill speculative multi-tier price matrices.
What information do you need from me to quote a custom mahjong set?
8 inputs cover the quote: format, tile size, engraving method, colors and Pantone codes, packaging, accessories, quantity with target date, and artwork status. Use the ordering guide or send the numbered list directly.
Are you a factory or a trading company?
3,000 m² of ISO 9001-certified production space in Bao'an, Shenzhen supports USMJ's CNC cutting, engraving, UV printing, and assembly work. The company has manufactured acrylic products since 2012 with 50+ staff; current production-floor evidence is available during supplier review. Mahjong production also draws on specialized partners for materials, accessories, and packaging — one reason the line runs on published policies rather than per-buyer paperwork.
What quality assurance backs a mahjong order?
100% visual inspection and a color check against your approved physical sample gate every batch before shipment approval, with QC photos before the cargo leaves the warehouse; ISTA 3A drop testing is available on request or on specified programs. Units that fail the approved spec are reviewed with photo evidence and remade. Custom production is not sold with a warranty period — the approved sample, not a time-based guarantee, is the acceptance standard.
