Find Your Mahjong Tile Set Format
Custom acrylic mahjong tile sets come in six core formats: the NMJL 152-tile American standard, the 160-tile expanded American set with spare Jokers and blank replacement tiles, the 144-tile traditional Chinese set, multi-colorway boutique production runs locked against approved samples, single-color premium 4-layer laminated tiers for the collector market, and full brand-edition OEM runs produced from the buyer's outlined vector artwork. Every format is cast PMMA in three standard tile bodies — 30 × 23 × 13 mm compact, 32 × 23 × 13 mm mid, 36 × 25 × 15 mm full-size, custom sizes on request — with 0.3 mm CNC chamfered edges, in colors matched from the in-stock sheet range to the buyer's Pantone or hex target.
Core Product Specifications
Made from thickened high-clarity acrylic, every rack is finely polished along edges for a smooth, burr-free grip. The material is scratch-resistant, wear-proof and anti-yellowing, retaining crystal transparency even after long-term repeated use. The entire rack is crafted with elegant uniform dot mesh patterns across the surface. This unique patterned design not only adds refined decorative texture and premium visual appeal, but also brings extra anti-slip properties, easily differentiating it from basic smooth solid acrylic racks. A built-in magnetic pusher simplifies tile pushing and arrangement, enabling fluent operation without slipping during fast-paced rounds.
Lightweight yet solid and long-lasting, this textured acrylic mahjong rack balances easy handling and reliable structural strength. It fits daily home use and bulk commercial deployment equally well, becoming a preferred game accessory for mahjong enthusiasts worldwide.

What Is a Custom Acrylic Mahjong Tile Set?
A custom acrylic mahjong tile set is a 144 to 160-tile game set in cast PMMA, engraved and color-finished to a brand's specification — substrate, color, character engraving method, Joker artwork, edge geometry, and packaging integration — manufactured as a paired SKU with rack-and-pusher accessories, mat, and dice. Colors are matched from the in-stock cast sheet range and locked against an approved physical sample. ISTA 3A drop-test is available on request or on specified programs.
American mahjong is governed by the National Mah Jongg League (NMJL) — the organization that publishes the official annual card defining which hands are valid each year. The NMJL 152-tile standard set includes suits (萬, 條, 筒), winds, dragons, flowers, and 8 Jokers — versus the 144-tile traditional Chinese set with no Jokers. The 160-tile expanded American set adds 2 spare Jokers and 6 blank replacement tiles, so one damaged tile never forces a return. Our production line ships all three formats from the same tile geometry (30 × 23 × 13 mm body, 0.3 mm chamfer, laser-etched character at 0.3 mm channel depth) — only the suit composition and Joker count change across the three.
A 50-set production run lands in 15–20 days from sample sign-off. A multi-colorway boutique run adds no casting lead time — each colorway is a sheet pick from the in-stock range, locked on the approved sample. Samples run in three tiers: a single engraved tile at $40–80 in 5–7 days, a 12-tile color check at $180–320 in 7 days, and a full-set sample at $300–500 in 7–10 days including air freight. Sample fees are paid separately and are not credited to production.

Core Specifications — Standard & Customizable
The table below shows our production-tier defaults plus the customizable axes on every order. The standards reflect what we ship by default if a buyer specifies only "152-tile NMJL American mahjong, cast acrylic, custom logo." The customizable column shows where buyers commonly spec up — boutique colorways, 4-layer laminated tile body, custom Joker artwork, branded packaging integration.
Every spec listed below is stated in the production drawing we send with your quote. The 0.3 mm chamfer, the approved-sample color standard, and the inspection scope are line items on the QC sheet. ISTA 3A drop-test is available on request or on specified programs.

Anatomy of a Production-Grade Acrylic Mahjong Tile
A production-grade acrylic mahjong tile is a five-layer composite: a 6 mm cast PMMA body with polished face, a 0.3 mm laser-etched character channel recessed into the body, a 0.05 mm UV-printed suit color stack over the etched character with a clear-coat seal, a 0.3 mm CNC chamfered edge on all four sides, and an optional 4-layer laminated translucent middle layer for the collector tier. Every dimension is auditable in the production drawing.
Customization Details — Build Your Perfect Set
Three customization axes drive a custom mahjong tile set spec: the tile itself (substrate, color, layers, geometry), the marking and artwork (characters, suit colors, brand integration, Jokers), and the packaging and presentation (gift box, travel case, accessory bundle, retail unit-pack). Each axis is independently spec-able — buyers can mix a stock 152-tile NMJL composition with a fully custom Joker artwork and a wooden gift-box presentation, or run a 4-layer laminated premium tile with stock packaging.

From Brief to Delivery — Five Steps
USMJ mahjong tile production runs a five-step workflow: brief intake, an itemized quote with production drawing, sample approval (5–10 days depending on sample tier), production checked against the approved sample (15–20 days), and freight. Air freight runs 3–7 days; sea freight 14–30 days.
Send Brief
Tile count (152 / 160 / 144), colorway target, Joker artwork, packaging tier, target unit volume. Or send sample tiles for reverse-spec.
Brief inQuote + Proof
An itemized quote for your actual target quantity, with a production drawing of the tile geometry. Open points are listed so the spec can be closed before sampling.
Quote + drawingSample Approval
Single engraved tile, 12-tile color check, or full-set sample — your call. Sample fees are paid separately and are not credited to production; the one-off labor far exceeds the fee. ISTA 3A drop-test available on request.
5–10 daysProduction
Sheet-lot reservation + cut + engrave + UV print + chamfer + final QC. Color checked against your approved sample with 100% visual inspection on every batch.
15–20 daysShip + Inspect
FOB Shenzhen default; CIF and DDP available. Air freight 3–7 days, sea freight 14–30 days. Acceptance is against the approved drawing and approved physical sample.
3–30 daysWhy Choose USMJ for Custom Acrylic Mahjong Sets
Buyers consolidate mahjong tile sourcing with USMJ for a specific set of reasons: cast PMMA tile bodies with recessed laser-etched characters, the 0.3 mm CNC chamfer specified on every edge, an approved-sample color model built on the in-stock cast sheet range, fully custom tiles from 50 sets per design, 15–20 day production after sample approval, and packaging built around a silicone-cradle insert with ISTA 3A drop-test available on request.
Durable Construction
Cast PMMA tile bodies are specified against ASTM D256 impact test methods. The engraved character sits recessed below the play surface, so it is not exposed to shuffling wear. The 0.3 mm CNC chamfer spreads corner contact load instead of concentrating it on a square edge. Material declarations are available on request for procurement teams that need them.
Premium Hand-Feel
Three standard tile bodies — 30 × 23 × 13 mm, 32 × 23 × 13 mm, and 36 × 25 × 15 mm, custom sizes on request. The 0.3 mm CNC-chamfered edge is what buyers describe as feeling right on the table. Polished face, not a saw-cut finish.
Crystal-Clear Markings
Laser-etched characters at 0.3 mm channel depth sit inside the tile body rather than on top of it. A clear-coat seal is applied over UV-printed suit colors. Both are specified on the production drawing and verified on the approved sample.
Full Branding Flexibility
Custom Joker artwork, brand logo on tile back, UV-printed serial numbers, holographic foil overlay — all produced from your outlined vector files. Colorways are matched from the in-stock cast sheet range to your targets and locked against the approved physical sample.
Production Timing
15–20 day production after sample approval. Air freight 3–7 days, sea freight 14–30 days. If an order has to meet a trade-show or seasonal window, ask whether a partial air shipment is feasible when you send the brief.
Brand-Newcomer Friendly
Fully custom mahjong tiles start at 50 sets per design, which gives emerging brands a practical first-run option. Higher quantities can be planned after the first approved design and packaging system are stable.
Material Compliance
Cast PMMA (acrylic) is a recyclable thermoplastic. Reference test methods such as ASTM D5946 cover surface preparation for ink adhesion. Our quality system is ISO 9001 certified, with SGS and RoHS documentation available. Material datasheets are available for buyers with chemistry-spec procurement requirements.
Retail & Gift Ready
Silicone-cradle insert with corrugated outer carton as standard. ISTA 3A drop-test is available on request or on specified programs. Custom unit-pack with brand artwork, wooden gift box, and velvet-lined display case options are available; custom packaging starts at 1,000 sets.

Buyer Resources on Request
Before you brief us, here are the reference documents we hand every custom mahjong buyer — request any of the four below and we will send it to you. The spec worksheet covers the four spec axes (substrate, engraving, edge, color) at a depth that turns a generic "polished acrylic, 144 tiles, custom logo" brief into a quotable production drawing. The sample-request flowchart helps you choose between the single engraved tile, the 12-tile color check, and the full-set sample. The Pantone reference card and packaging insert spec sheet cover color targets and unit-pack detail. (No NDA template here by design — we do not sign NDAs on mahjong projects; see the ordering policies.)
Mahjong Tile Spec Worksheet
A one-page fillable spec sheet covering the production decisions on every custom mahjong tile run — substrate, engraving method (laser etch / UV print / CNC detail), edge chamfer geometry, and color targets for stock-sheet matching.
Pantone Reference Card
Colorway swatches that buyers request most, plus how to send Pantone or hex targets so we can propose the closest in-stock sheet for each — and why the approved physical sample, not a Pantone number, is the production standard.
Sample Request Flowchart
Three sample tiers (single engraved tile / 12-tile color check / full-set sample) with decision criteria for which to start with based on your spec uncertainty, colorway count, and target unit volume.
Packaging Insert Spec Sheet
Silicone-cradle insert geometry, gift-box footprint dimensions, inner carton spec, and the ISTA 3A drop-test protocol available on request. Sized to your tile dimensions on request.
Request any of the four resources through our contact page and we will email them to you. Buyers who use them write briefs that turn into quotable production drawings faster, with fewer rounds on substrate, engraving, edge, and color.

Quote Your Mahjong Tile ProgramThe Details That Separate Premium From Generic
At arm's length, most acrylic mahjong tiles look similar. The differences are in the specification: recessed laser-etched characters, a 0.3 mm CNC chamfer on every edge, and a colorway locked against an approved physical sample. These are drawing-level decisions, and they are what the QC sheet checks against.

Risk referenceCheck four common specification pitfallsSubstrate, chamfer, latch and color acceptance
Four Common Specification Pitfalls on Custom Mahjong Tile Runs
Four spec omissions cause most avoidable regressions on OEM mahjong tile projects: an unspecified substrate, a skipped edge chamfer, a magnetic-only travel-case latch, and no written color-acceptance standard on the production drawing. Each is preventable at the brief stage and expensive to remediate after production.
Pitfall 1: Unspecified Substrate
"Acrylic" on a drawing does not state whether the tile body is cast or extruded PMMA. We build cast PMMA tiles only, and we write the substrate onto the drawing so it is auditable before production. For a substrate and format comparison, see the mahjong buyer guides.
Pitfall 2: Skipped Chamfer
A square-edged tile concentrates tile-on-tile contact load at the corner. The 0.3 mm CNC chamfer spreads that load across a wider area and removes the sharp edge. It is a standard operation on every USMJ tile edge and is stated on the production drawing. See the engraving and finishing guides for the edge-geometry comparison.
Pitfall 3: Magnetic-Only Latch
Magnetic-only travel-case latches rely on magnet retention alone. A magnetic plus mechanical interlock latch holds the lid closed through freight handling. Latch tier is a line item on the case drawing — specify it rather than leaving it to the factory default. See the mahjong display and travel case options.
Pitfall 4: Unspec'd Color Tolerance
Color drift between components and batches is the multi-colorway risk buyers actually see. We control it at the source: each colorway is cut from one reserved in-stock sheet lot for the whole run, and finished tiles are checked against the physical sample you approved — the sample, not a screen render or a Pantone number, is the acceptance standard. See the buyer guides.
Brief checklist note: write all four of these onto the production drawing at the quoting stage. A brief that says "polished acrylic, 144 tiles, custom logo" leaves substrate, edge, latch and color acceptance undefined. A brief that names cast PMMA, 0.3 mm chamfer, a combination latch, and an approved physical sample as the color standard is quotable as drawn.

Our production MOQ is 50 sets per design for fully custom tiles with standard packaging and stock accessories. Accessory customization starts at 250 sets; custom packaging starts at 1,000 sets. A paid sample is available before production.
How long from brief to delivered sets?
Sample turn is 5–7 days for a single engraved tile, 7 days for a 12-tile color check, and 7–10 days for a full-set sample including air freight. Production is 15–20 days once the sample is approved. Air freight runs 3–7 days and sea freight 14–30 days from Shenzhen. Multi-colorway runs add no casting lead time — every colorway is a sheet pick from the in-stock range, confirmed on the sample.
Can you produce sets that match the NMJL 152-tile and 160-tile American standards?
Yes. We produce both the 152-tile NMJL American composition (suits + winds + dragons + flowers + 8 Jokers) and the 160-tile expanded set (adds 2 spare Jokers and 6 blank replacement tiles). The 144-tile Chinese set runs on the same line. Tile body size (30 × 23 × 13 mm standard) and engraving depth (0.3 mm laser channel) are constant across all three; only the suit composition and Joker count change. We are not affiliated with, licensed by, or authorized by the National Mah Jongg League.
What customization can you do on the tiles themselves?
The tiles are fully custom from 50 sets per design; accessory customization starts at 250 sets and custom packaging at 1,000 sets. Options include solid or translucent cast PMMA, three standard tile sizes with custom sizes on request, laser-etched or UV-printed characters, 4-layer laminated construction, 0.3 mm chamfered edges, clear-coat seal, and branded tile backs. We confirm material, geometry, artwork method, and tolerances on the paid sample before production.
Do you guarantee color register across a multi-colorway production run?
Color consistency inside a run is controlled by cutting each colorway from one reserved sheet lot and checking finished tiles against the physical sample you approved. What we do not promise is a 100% exact match to a Pantone reference: colors come from the in-stock cast sheet range, matched as the closest available sheet. The approved physical sample, not a Pantone number, is the production standard.
What does a sample cost, and is the fee separate from production?
Three sample tiers: a single engraved tile with your engraving method runs $40–80 and ships in 5–7 days; a 12-tile color check for multi-colorway runs is $180–320 and ships in 7 days; a full-set sample runs $300–500 including air freight and ships in 7–10 days. Sample fees are paid separately and are not credited to production — the engraving, color-check and finishing labor behind a one-off sample exceeds the fee. ISTA 3A drop-test is available on request.
What do I need to send to get a quote?
Eight items: format (NMJL 152 / 160 / Chinese 144 / other manifest), tile size and layer construction, engraving method, color targets, packaging tier, accessories, the quantity you actually plan to order plus a target date, and artwork status. Outlined vector files are the preferred artwork format. Open points can be marked TBD — we will list what is still needed in the quote.
What's the difference between cast PMMA and lower-cost acrylic options?
Cast PMMA is polymerized between glass plates; extruded PMMA is pushed through a die. We build cast PMMA tiles only, because the engraving and UV-fill processes are tuned for it. The substrate is written onto the production drawing so it is auditable before production rather than assumed. For the comparison, see our buyer guides.
What quality assurance and inspection terms do you offer?
100% visual inspection and a color check against your approved physical sample gate every batch before shipment approval. ISTA 3A drop-test is available on request or on specified programs. Acceptance is against the approved drawing and the approved physical sample. Custom production is not sold with a time-based warranty — the approved sample is the acceptance standard.
How does USMJ compare with larger volume-tier mahjong OEMs?
Our position is MOQ and lead time. Fully custom tiles start at 50 sets per design with 15–20 day production after sample approval, which serves brand-launch programs that higher-MOQ suppliers may not quote. Reference unit pricing runs $47–58 per set across the 50–500 set ladder FOB Shenzhen. Reference only · FOB Shenzhen · confirmed on your written quote.
What payment terms and freight options do you offer?
Standard terms are a 30% deposit on order confirmation, with the 70% balance paid before shipment. T/T wire transfer, PayPal, and Western Union are accepted. FOB Shenzhen is the default, with CIF and DDP available by destination. Air freight runs 3–7 days and sea freight 14–30 days.
Can you hand-paint the color fill, like vintage or heirloom sets?
No. We engrave the pattern into the tile first, then UV print the color into the engraved recess. Because the color sits inside the recess rather than on top of the surface, shuffling does not wear it off, and every tile in a run is produced to the same specification. Hand paint-fill is too labor-intensive to hold consistent quality at OEM volume, so we do not offer it.
Do you make melamine, resin, or marble-pattern tiles?
No. We build cast acrylic (PMMA) tiles only — that is the material our engraving, UV-fill, and color-check processes are set up for. We do not produce melamine or resin tiles. If a melamine construction is a hard requirement, we are not the right factory, and we will say so on the first email rather than after a sample.
How do you protect our brand artwork and IP during the OEM workflow?
By standing practice, not paperwork: your artwork is used only for your production, never published, never reused, never offered to another buyer, and client designs never appear in our marketing. We do not sign NDAs on mahjong projects — the multi-partner production chain (materials, engraving, UV printing, accessories, packaging) makes a single-factory NDA unenforceable. Your enforceable protection is a registered trademark or design patent in your market. For non-mahjong acrylic projects, an NDA is available before files are exchanged. Full reasoning: ordering policies.
What should I look for in a custom mahjong tile manufacturer?
Five things separate a production-grade custom mahjong tile manufacturer from a trading company reselling stock tiles: substrate stated on the drawing (cast PMMA, not "acrylic" as a catch-all), an approved physical sample as the color standard rather than a Pantone-exact promise, format coverage across NMJL 152, expanded 160 and Chinese 144 with Joker artwork capability, an MOQ that fits your launch tier, and a written packaging and inspection scope. Each one is auditable in the production drawing before you commit.
Do you ship internationally and handle customs documentation?
Yes. We ship to the US, Canada, the UK, and Australia. FOB Shenzhen is the default; CIF and DDP are available, and DDP covers import customs handling and last-mile delivery. We prepare the commercial invoice, packing list, and certificate of origin; the buyer provides the importer-of-record details. Confirm the tariff classification for your market with your customs broker.
Building a Mahjong Brand or Gifting Program?
Send your tile spec — set count (152 NMJL / 160 expanded / 144 Chinese), target colorway, Joker artwork, packaging tier, accessories, and quantity. Or mail us a reference tile set and we will reverse-spec it. You get an itemized quote for your actual target quantity plus a production drawing and the sample plan. Sample before you commit to production.
